[Oct 17th 2023] It’s 11:42; three espressos down, and barely a third of the way to inbox-zero, and the fucking screen glitches out.Followed quickly by the rest of my peripheral vision.
I love this look at your journey into a sabbatical - it's so relatable! Funny how it can be so stressful at first (and on going haha). I really like the idea of "human 'be-ing'", I feel that was my biggest takeaway as well from my own time off.
Brother this was super relatable - thank for putting the experience into words. If life is the greatest gift in the known universe the human who is most engaged makes the most of the ride. And this quote hit home for me "Someone who could enjoy a sunset without worrying about all those deliverables." In August I watched a sunset and I felt no joy, and knew something was wrong. Decided to go on a three week solo-camping trip. Which brought me to writing. Which brought me here, haha. This quote from Paulo Coelho's Warrior of the Light also brought the point home for me: "A Warrior of the Light needs love. Love and affection are as much a part of his nature as eating, drinking, and a taste for the Good Fight. When the Warrior watches a sunset and feels no joy, then something is wrong." Great essay, champ. Keep'm coming.
"The space I created wasn't empty." Whew! I love reading about other people's sabbatical experiences.
Wait...am I slightly delusional?
Great writing, Martyn. You pulled me through the piece and I love how you wrapped it up at the end. So happy to be getting to know you over at WOP.
